Not only does the name seem to suggest itself
thanks
to the initial letters, there is also a bit of ancient history to back
it up!
Leonidas was King of
Sparta in the fifth century BC and is famous for defending his position
at the mountain pass of Thermopylae against overwhelming odds when the
Persian army threatened to invade.
He and his small band of men fought
bravely to the last and have come to personify the values of
determination, loyalty, strength and resolve.
What better models could
we have chosen
for our beloved breed ?
These are also true Leo
characteristics. |
On the other hand, these values are also important
to
us in our “battle” for the betterment of the breed and the maintenance
of standards both in the
quality and health of the dogs as well as the
behaviour of their owners!
Our weapons are not swords and spears but
dedication and love of the “gentle giants”.
Our pool of energy is
fuelled by what they give us
in return and by the fact that we know we
are not alone but share the support of other honest and conscientious
breeders throughout the world.

|
And our history?
WE – that is the two humans behind the Leonidas
Kennel – met for the first time while organizing
a Leonberger Rescue for
an old, pure-bred
Leo girl without a pedigree.
We realised quite soon
that our intentions were similar and our love of the breed the same.
Being on the same wavelength helped to make communication easy despite
the fact we live in different parts of the country.
Leos provided the
link between north and south Germany, between Westphalia and Bavaria.
So
we decided to become a team and begin
a “responsible adventure”
– the
breeding of lovely Leonbergers.
|
In introducing “our Leos” to you, we would like to
show you the Leos who share our lives in
two different locations but
with similar lifestyles.
“WE” includes both of us and all of them!
We
remain in regular close contact with each other, distance being no
obstacle thanks to phone, fax
and email, and discuss our plans and ideas
in a democratic and responsible way – for the benefit
of our canine
friends who depend on us.
Welcome to Leonidas !
